PET TRUSTS
Many cats and dogs are relinquished daily to animal shelters when
their owners enter a nursing home or die.   Pet owners, believing that
relatives will adopt their pets, may never know that relatives are unable
to keep the  pet  when push comes to shove.  Pets are instead turned
over to an  animal shelter where their future will be based upon the
shelter's assessment of the pet's adopt ability.

Please consider creating a MO pet trust to ensure that your pets are
cared for appropriately when you are no longer able to care for them.
Under MO law, a pet owner can set aside funds for the care of the
owner's pets and name a specific person as the pet's guardian.  The
pet is then cared for in the manner the owner outlines in this legal
document.

Pet owners need to know how to perform basic first aid and CPR
on their pets.  Pet accidents can happen in spite of all pet owner
precautions.  Would you know what to do if your dog collapses,
your cat suffers a burn from your oven, or your dog suffers a back
injury jumping off your sofa or bed?  There are a number of
resources available for pet owners on the Internet as well as from
groups such as the American Red Cross.  Please take the time to
become knowledgeable about pet first aid training in your area
and be prepared for any pet emergency that may occur.

Pet First Aid Training
"Will you know what to do when your pet needs help? The American Red Cross, the nation's largest
humanitarian organization offers local Pet First Aid training to local communities.  The training includes
hands on experience performing CPR and rescue breathing for cats and dogs.  The training focuses
upon identifying pet emergencies, learning bandaging/splinting techniques, rescue breathing, and CPR
for pets.  The registration cost is typically $35 per person and includes the American Red Cross Pet
First Aid booklet.  Participants may also purchase home and auto Pet First Aid kits from the local Red
Cross chapter.
